Seattle Artist Zuolie Deng's
artworks is here now until
middle of April
Zoulie Deng is a life long practitioner of the art of painting,
calligraphy, seal carving and poetry. These art forms began in Tang
Dynasty (618 - 907 AD) and successive generations of artist scholars
further refined and blended them into one that is uniquely
Chinese. In Chinese tradition, the esthetic value of a painting must
be enhanced, or at least, complemented by a verse, beautiful
writing, and an imprint of the artist's seal.
Zoulie is a native of Guangdong, born into an artistic family. He
showed an intense interest in painting and started his training
under his father's guidance at age of six. Thus began his artistic
journey. He received a law degree from Guangdong Political College
and practiced law for a year. However, he decided instead to
pursue his passion for art and later attended the Chinese Art
Institute and studied Western painting techniques.
After immigrating to the United States, he supported his family by
becoming a successful restaurateur for many years. Eventually, Mr.
Deng decided to dedicate solely to his art and opened the Lo Ya
Chai Studio (Joy Grace House) in Seattle.
Zoulie has had numerous solo shows and participated in many
group exhibition; has displayed at renowned museums and galleries
both in the States and oversea; his work has been acquired by
many art lovers and museums.
Zoulie has been experimenting with various techniques and
subjects. His paintings include landscape, flower and bird, animal,
figurative, and bamboo. He combines different styles of painting,
such as gongbi (outlined), mogu (lineless), xieyi (free ideas) and
the concept of collage.
Zoulie is very generous with his time in supporting community
services. He has been teaching the young and the old alike the art
of painting and has donated many of his art work to raise fund far
charities. He was the president of the Washington State Overseas
Chinese Artist Association in Seattle, 2004-2005.
